How old does my child have to be to enroll in the San Pedro Co-Op?

Your child must be 2 years at time of enrollment to attend the two-day class (Teddies) and 4 years at time of enrollment to attend the four-day class (Dinos).

How many classes do you have?

We have 2 classes: Our Teddy class is for 2-4 year olds, 2 days a week. Our Dino class is for 4-5 year olds, 4 days a week.

When are classes held?

All classes are held from 9:00am until 12:00pm. The Teddy class is on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Dino class is Monday – Thursday.

My child isn’t potty trained yet. Will that be a problem?

That will not be a problem! By expanding our Teddies class to children 2 years old, children in diapers may attend the 2-day class on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We do not provide potty training in our curriculum but we have a wealth of tips and tricks that other parents have used and have worked, feel free to ask us anything!

What does Co-Op mean?

A Co-Op preschool means the school is run by teachers and parents. Co-Op means community. As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child,” and we live by this principle everyday. Our children are cared for not only by our director and teacher, but also by all the parents, as if they were their own. This loving environment is good for the kids and good for the school.

What does membership mean?

Because this a Co-Op, we are each members of this community. Instead of “tuition”, we call it “dues.” Instead of “parent meetings,” they are called “membership meetings.” Parents have a stake and a say in this school as member, and are respected as such.

My child doesn’t have much experience with other children yet. Will that be a problem?

No. This is why we are here. Preschool is a chance for children to learn to socialize, listen well and follow directions, build on gross and fine motor skills, and prepare for kindergarten.  While there are developmental milestones, children show strengths at different times. If you are concerned in any way about this, we encourage you to contact our school and schedule a visit.

Who provides the mid-morning snack?

Parents rotate according to the participation schedule set forth a month in advance. The Director provides a menu for each day. We strive to provide healthy choices that are organic as much as possible. Water is always available.

What if my child has allergies?

We can accommodate any allergy restrictions your child may have. Or, if you prefer, you can provide your child’s snack each day.

Does the Co-Op offer discounts?

We only offer a small discount if you have more than one child enrolled at our school. Our membership dues (tuition) are very affordable.

Will my child learn his ABCs?

Yes. While we emphasize learning through play, we guide children to challenge themselves, to expand their horizons and their viewpoints, and to enhance their reasoning skills. We teach to prepare our students for the standards set forth and adopted by the state of California for kindergarten and beyond.
