Why Choose a Co-Op?
The Co-Op experience is a special opportunity to stay involved and connected with your child in these precious early years where a lot of changes and learning moments are happening. Direct participation gives you as parents a firsthand view of your child’s learning and development, and you get to be present as they unfold.
For many families this lends a transition period from having their children at home all the time to being separated, even for a few hours a day.
On the days you volunteer your child will get to volunteer in their own way by acting as Weather Helper, Month Helper, Date Helper, or Line Leader. They also participate in show & tell at the end of the day.
Kids love to volunteer the same days as their Mommies & Daddies!
What is a Co-Op?
A parent participation, or cooperative, nursery school is a democratic organization where each family shares in the ownership and operation of the school. As owners, parents participate in the administration and maintenance of the school by performing job assignments, assisting in the classroom and by serving on the board of directors.
The philosophy of the San Pedro Co-Op Nursery School has developed out of years of experience. It is an expression of what our parents have decided is necessary and desirable for our children. We believe that the primary focus of our school should be the healthy and happy development of the complete child, i.e., social, emotional, physical and intellectual. Our child-centered philosophy allows children to learn through play by exploring their environment at their own developmental pace. Our non-profit school is founded on the principle that the best education will result from an active partnership between parents, teachers and children. We work to provide a caring, trusting, and noncompetitive environment in which our children can flourish as individuals and friends.
